What To Know Before Starting Coolsculpting Treatments

The FDA has approved Coolsculpting treatments as a safe form of fat reduction treatment. There are many benefits to Coolsculpting, but it is essential to be informed about the process before beginning treatment. Below are the answers to all the questions you should ask during your Coolsculpting consultation appointment.

What Are Coolsculpting Treatments?

Coolsculpting treatments are non-surgical procedures designed to target and reduce fat cells by freezing. The treatment targets stubborn fat cells that do not respond to diet and exercise. The procedure is non-invasive, and there is no need to be sedated throughout the treatment.

What Does The Process Involve?

The provider will use a specialized tool to apply the treatment directly to the targeted area. During the application, you may experience a range of sensations, including intense cold, tugging, pulling, tenderness, tingling, and other temporary side effects. Once the application is complete, the area is massaged to stimulate the cells.

How Long Does The Treatment Take?

Treatment times vary depending on the target area and the number of areas being treated. Most treatments are completed in 35 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes. Generally, the patient is expected to relax during the procedure, read a book, nap, or do whatever else makes them comfortable.

How Long Is The Recovery Time After Each Treatment?

Because Coolsculpting fat treatments are non-surgical, there is very little, if any, recovery time after treatment. In most cases, there are no restrictions after treatment, but minor side effects such as redness or tenderness can last anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks after treatment.

How Long Does It Take To See Results?

Results are usually noticeable in about three weeks; however, it generally takes between two and three months to see the full effects of the treatment.

How Many Treatments Are Generally Needed?

The number of Coolsculpting treatments that are necessary will depend on the desired results. This is something that should be discussed with the provider during the consultation appointment. In general, each treatment will result in a 20-25% reduction in fat cells.

Is There Any Risk To Treatment?

As with any medical procedure, Coolsculpting treatments carry some risks, however, they are only associated with minor side effects and there are no serious risks to healthy patients. Side effects may include sensations of intense cold, tingling, stinging, pulling, redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness, aching, cramping, or skin sensitivity.

Consult your doctor before pursuing Coolsculpting treatments if you have medical conditions to be sure the treatment is right for you.
